So I’ve been looking for some delicious side dishes to go with Frito pie.
Frito pie complements refried beans, guacamole and salsa sauces, different vegetables, black beans, and fresh and major salads. It complements potato meals, grilled corn and corn-based foods, apple coleslaw, zucchini fires, and, of course, cheeses.

Because they’re robust and tasty, I believe these Mexican-style refried beans are a perfect side dish for Frito pie. They give protein and fiber to the dish, which helps to balance out the tastes of the other foods.

Grilled corn with chili powder is an easy-to-make side dish that adds a bit extra flavor to your dinner. All you have to do is shuck the corn, drizzle it with olive oil, then sprinkle it with chile powder. Once everything is ready, place it on the grill for approximately 10 minutes, or until it begins to caramelize. The end result? Deliciously sweet, spicy, and smokey!
If you really want to push things up a level, add a splash of lime juice or garlic powder for a flavor boost. Furthermore, grilled corn pairs well with any kind of cheese sauce, creating a match made in heaven for the ultimate Frito pie experience.
Refried Black Beans With Queso Fresco Topping
Although the simple preparation of refried beans is usually sufficient, why not try this modified recipe anytime you want to serve something a little more complex? This is an excellent savory side dish for your Frito pie. Refried black beans with queso fresco are unbeatable. Every mouthful of this combo is bursting with flavor.
Begin by cooking some black beans. I don’t season them since the queso fresco adds enough flavor, but if you want spice, add some cumin, oregano, chili powder, or any other favorite ingredients. When the beans are done, mash them with a potato masher and sauté in a little oil for approximately five minutes, or until the mixture is hot and bubbling.
Then it’s time for the garnish! Sprinkle some queso fresco over the top of the beans. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 10 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown.
Cilantro and Lime Crema Sauce
I always serve my Frito pie with a little something extra on the side, and nothing beats creamy cilantro and lime crema sauce. It’s the ideal combination of acidic brightness and herbal depth.
To prepare the sauce, all you need is a food processor or blender. Blend in cilantro leaves, lime juice, garlic, jalapeño peppers, Greek yogurt or mayonnaise, a bit of salt, and water. The end product is a silky, creamy sauce with just the proper amount of heat!
It may be served as a side dish to Frito pie or as a dip for chips. I also like to add it to tacos since it gives an additional depth of flavor that elevates the whole dish!
Vegetable Sides Such as Roasted Peppers or Jalapeños
Roasted peppers or jalapeos give a good taste punch, and their vibrant colors may really make the platter stand out.
I like bell peppers for roasted peppers because they are sweet and somewhat smokey, but you could use green, red, yellow, or even a combination. After they’ve been roasted, cut them up and mix with olive oil and salt. Then, right before serving, sprinkle them over your Frito Pie.
Try roasting jalapeos instead if you want something a little more spicy. You may slice them into thin rounds or quarters, and if you’re feeling adventurous, leave the seeds in for added heat! Before serving, mix them in olive oil and salt once more.
Shredded Lettuce, Tomatoes, and Onions
Shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, and diced onions are one of my favorite Frito pie toppings. It’s simple, yet the flavors complement each other so wonderfully. It’s also a terrific way to add some crunch and freshness to the meal.
If you want to take your Frito pie to the next level, this is the way to go. Simply season your lettuce and tomatoes with salt and pepper to taste, and you’re set to go.
Salads, Salads, Salads
Salads have limitless possibilities, and I like experimenting with tastes and textures to create something unique. Salads with a Mexican flair are my favorite to serve with Frito pie.
I may start with a bed of fresh greens and then add chopped tomatoes, avocado, cilantro, and jalapeos. Then I’ll toss in a tasty dressing, like as honey-lime vinaigrette. This is an excellent way to savor all of the tastes of Mexico while still getting your vegetables.
Of course, Caesar salad, purple vegetable salad, or any other sort of salad you want will complement this pie!
Zucchini fries are an excellent accompaniment to Frito pie. They’re easy to create and just need a few ingredients. A zucchini, all-purpose flour, spices such as salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, oil, bread crumbs, and grated Parmesan cheese are required.
In a small basin, combine the flour and spices. Place the zucchini fries in the mixture, coating each piece well. Then, in a large skillet over medium heat, heat the oil.
Cook the zucchini fries in the pan for 5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels. Mix the bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese in a separate shallow basin. Before serving, sprinkle over the zucchini fries.
You’ll need mayonnaise, sweet relish, granny smith apples, apple cider vinegar, dried dill, and freshly ground black pepper to make the apple coleslaw.
Begin by grating two granny smith apples in a medium bowl using a box grater. Mix in some mayonnaise and one spoonful of sweet relish until everything is equally blended. In a separate dish, combine two tablespoons apple cider vinegar, one teaspoon dried dill, and one teaspoon freshly ground black pepper.
Whisk everything together, then gently pour the mixture into the coleslaw. Mix one more to blend all of the ingredients and place in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
